Participants' Feedback

What do Course Participants say about the Program?

Below is a representative sample of the responses our participants have provided in the 3-month surveys completed this year about their experiences on the Program. We invited participants to look back at the course and asked them: "What was the most memorable aspect of the course?" and "What did you think about the course generally?" These are their responses three months after attending a Scotwork Program:

  • "Gaining a fresh view of something quite critical to our business which we take for granted and think we do well ... and finding we dont !"
  • "80% of the time was hands on, you were not sitting & listening the whole time, very interactive."
  • "The most memorable aspect was the final negotiation. I was so involved in it that I couldn't sleep the night before as I kept going over my strategy for the following morning. I think it is fantastic that a course can make you feel this involved."
  • "Being filmed and then watching yourself back on the big screen. The tutors used a great tag team method to walk everyone through the role play and extract every last bit of juice from the situation. Exceptional technique."
  • "How people can go in with a "win it all" mindset and miss out on potentially more positive outcomes."
  • "I think the most memorable thing from the course were the negotiation and review sessions which followed each of the lectures. They provided a wonderful opportunity to use the skills we had just learned in the previous session."
  • "Getting the free upgraded amazing suite at the Como afterwards by using my newly aquired negotiation skills!"

How have you found the course generally?

  • "From my perspective the content was excellent. I hadn't previously had any formal negotiation training so the content of the course really helped to provide a structure and has improved my negotiation technique. I think the length of the course was about right also - long enough to cover a lot of content but not overload. Both the lectureres were top notch also."
  • "I thought the course was excellent and, as you can see from my responses, I have certainly gained enormous value from it."
  • "It is some of the best training I have had, and I still rave to others about it!"
  • "Found the course excellent ... my only comment would have been I would have enjoyed perhaps even another day of discussion and practical examples..."
  • "It was enjoyable and I could relate it direcly to professional and real life situations. The way the trainers taught the course using real life examples was great! The best training course I've ever done, and I've done a lot."
  • "We use some of the terminology learned quite regularly and I have been doing my usual thing getting more out of every dollar spent. I negotiated my way into quite a significant cache of motor cycle riding gear as a result of a failure on the suppliers behalf, so that was a nice personal gain, but the work gains are significantly higher. The most recent suite of works were negotiated down about 15% and the scope heightened with no cost incursion in return for us providing better services to the crew of workmen."
  • "You should develop refresher sessions. This would be very useful for ex-students."

The request for longer courses or refresher sessions is quite frequent in our follow-up surveys and, as a result, we have just started offering a series of Open Refresher Programs.

The comments above have all been sourced from participant responses to our follow-up survey between 1 July 2008 and 30 June 2009. The survey report is anonymised to ensure that the confidentiality of our clients is maintained.
